You pack food and the buyer audits packaging
Choose paper. Food-contact compliant paper, film and ink let the bag itself be part of your compliance story. See flour paper bags.
The short answer, the full comparison, and how we decide it with customers packing flour, feed, minerals and dry mortar.
We produce both structures in the same factory, so the honest answer is that it depends on four things: what you pack, how you fill it, how far it travels and who sees the bag when it arrives.
| Factor | Multi-wall paper bag | Laminated woven bag |
|---|---|---|
| Food contact | Paper and ink can be food-contact compliant | Food-safe through a PP or PE inner liner |
| Stiffness and stacking | Holds a block shape, stacks very neatly | Softer and rounder after filling |
| Tear and puncture | Can tear if dragged or caught on a sharp edge | Very high tear resistance |
| Moisture protection | Needs a film layer or PE liner | Lamination plus liner gives a strong barrier |
| Print quality | Good; classic matte look | Photographic, high-gloss shelf appearance |
| Filling | Suits valve filling at speed | Sewn or valved, usually slower lines |
| Cost per bag | Higher at the same fill weight | Lower, especially 10–20 kg |
| Typical use | Flour, sugar, starch, putty, tile adhesive, pigments | Feed, pet food, minerals, low-cost bulk lines |

Choose laminated woven. BOPP film reproduces brand graphics and product photography that plain woven fabric cannot. See pet food bags.
Choose paper valve bags. They are built for a filling spout, fill cleanly and sit flat on the pallet. See putty powder valve bags.
Choose a woven laminate with a thickened PE liner — the tear resistance matters more than appearance. See chemical and mineral bags.
At the same fill weight, laminated woven is usually cheaper, especially between 10 and 20 kg. The gap narrows at 25–50 kg once the woven structure is upgraded with heavier fabric and a liner.
Yes, with the right construction: a laminated woven outer plus a PP or PE inner liner that keeps the product away from fabric and print. Paper remains more common where the bag itself must be food-contact compliant.
Paper valve bags hold a block shape and stack the most neatly. Woven bags filled with the same product are softer, so where pallet stability matters more than cost, paper is safer.
